If you feel stressed at work, you likely have plenty of company. Sixty-five percent of Americans report that work is their top source of stress. One-third have chronic stress from their jobs.

Stress, especially if you feel it all the time, can make you want to quit. But many of us, of course, need jobs! They provide paychecks we need to feed ourselves and our families. It’s also much easier to get a new job if you already have one.

So what can you do when your job is stressing you out, other than screaming “take this job and shove it!”

There are many ways to deal with work related stress.

1. Talk to Your Recruiter

Your Stride Staffing recruiter is here to make sure your assignment is the right assignment for you!  If you’re stressed, discuss it with them. Remember that Stride Staffing is always your employer, and has your best interest at heart. We will assist you in finding a solution.

Don’t quit! There are stressful situations everywhere, so learning to deal with them is a great life skill to learn.  Chances are if you just quit without notice, Stride will not be able find you additional assignments.

We rely on our employees to represent us well. Keeping calm and finding a solution to stress is something you need to do to work with us.  Remember Stride works with 100’s of clients every day, so if we need to find you another assignment Communication in the Key.

2. Take Care of Yourself Physically

Eat as healthily as possible during stressful times. Many people turn to sugar-filled treats like chocolate, or a relaxing drink of alcohol, to help them with stress. While they may make you feel less stressed in the short term, they won’t do anything to help in the long term! A healthy and balanced diet keeps you in good shape to deal with stress long term.

It’s also important to get enough sleep. If you’re dealing with a stressful job situation, feeling and being tired at work may just make it worse.

3. Breathe Deeply

Fortunately, there are physical techniques that can help you relax both at work and at home. Deep breathing, for example, helps you relax with no ill effects and can be done as often as needed.

How do you do it? Simply breathe in while counting to 5. Hold for 2 seconds. Then breathe out, also while counting to 5.

4. Relax Outside of Work

In addition to de-stressing outside of work, take time to simply live and enjoy your life! Enjoy your family, sports, roses…whatever is most fun for you.

If thoughts of work come in, just mentally hold up a big “Stop” sign. Stop work thoughts outside of work.
